Former MLA Komireddy Jyothi Devi funeral on Sunday in Metpally town

KARIMNAGAR, NOVEMBER 09, 2024: The last rites of former Metpally MLA Komireddy Jyothi Devi will be conducted in Metpally town of Jagtial district on Sunday.

The former legislator passed away on Friday night due to ill health while undergoing treatment for an ailment at a private hospital; in Bengaluru town on Friday night. She was 70 years old.

The wife of senior Congress leader and former legislator Komireddi Ramulu, Jyothi Devi entered politics with encouragement from Ramulu and was elected as MPTC member from Venkatraopet of Metpalli mandal in 1994.

In 1998, Jyothi Devi contested the by-elections from the Metpalli assembly segment which fell vacant following the sitting legislator Ch Vidyasagar Rao being elected as Karimnagar MP. She contested in the by-election and won the seat by defeating the BJP contestant T Venkatramana Reddy. She was a legislator for 17 months.

Being a leader of the All India Mahila MLAs’ Association, she strove hard for 33 per cent reservation for women in legislative bodies.  Jyothi and Ramulu had three sons.

Her body would be shifted to Hyderabad Begumpet airport in a special chartered plight by Saturday evening. The body would be shifted to Metpally town in an ambulance on Saturday night,
