

HYDERABAD, MAY 07, 2025: The Directorate of Distance Education of the English and Foreign Languages University (EFLU), Hyderabad, conducted a three-day workshop titled “Beyond Grading: Mastering Constructive Feedback on Distance Learning” for academic counsellors from May 5 to 7, 2025.

In his inaugural address, Prof. N. Nagaraju, Vice-Chancellor of EFLU, underscored the importance of constructive feedback in enriching the learning experience of distance education students. He urged the Directorate to make distance education programs more skills-oriented and job-oriented.
Prof. Narasimha Rao, Registrar (I/c), emphasised the need for marking guidelines and noted the growing prominence of distance education in ranking frameworks. He encouraged academic counsellors to deliver high-quality, meaningful feedback to learners.
Welcoming the participants, Prof. S. Jaya Raju, Director of DDE, set a warm tone for the event. Prof. S. Jeelani, Director of the Centre for Distance and Virtual Learning at the University of Hyderabad, provided a comprehensive overview of the evolution of correspondence education to online learning. He traced the history of open and distance learning (ODL), covering dual-mode education, MOOCs, SWAYAM, and student support services, while addressing the challenges in the field.
Further exploring the changing landscape, Prof. G.B. Reddy, Director of the Prof. G. Ram Reddy Centre for Distance Education at Osmania University, highlighted the increasing demand for distance and ODL programs in India. His session, “Distance Learning in India: Emerging Landscape”, examined innovative paths reshaping higher education accessibility.
Participants appreciated the workshop for its engaging, practical, and hands-on approach, expressing appreciation for the insightful contributions of the resource persons.
