Educational institutions pay tributes to social reformer Savithribhai Phule on her birth anniversary

Women’s Teachers Day observed

KARIMNAGAR, JANUARY 03, 2025: Educational institutions across the integrated Karimnagar district celebrated the birth anniversary of Savitribhai Phule as Women’s Teachers Day on Friday (January 3, 2025).

Savitribhai Phule, born in a small village in Satara district of Maharashtra state on January 3, 1831, is known for her work as social worker, poet and teacher. Incidentally, she was the first woman teacher of the country and played active role in women’s liberation movement. She was married to Jyothibha Phule at an early age of nine years and Jyothibha was 13 years old.

HUM voluntary organisation celebrated Women’s Teachers Day at ZPHS Teegalaguttapalli on the outskirts of Karimnagar town by felicitating the women teachers. HUM voluntary organisation founder Dhanapuri Sagar, headmaster Karuna, and others were also present. They said that Savithribhai Phule stood as a pioneer for women’s education and fought for equality.

Satavahana University

Satavahana University Vice Chancellor Prof U Umesh Kumar participated in the Women’s Teachers Day celebrations to celebrate the birth anniversary of social reformer Savithribhai Phule. University Women cell and NSS units organised the programme.

SRR college

SRR Government and Arts and Science college in Karimnagar paid floral tributes to the portrait of Savithribhai and recollected her services for the empowerment of girl child and women. Principal K Ramakrishna, women empowerment cell coordinator M Archana, a student Sri Nitya spoke on the role played by Savithribhai. Vice principal T Rajaiah, IQAC coordinator Harjoth Kaur, faculty members Jyothilaxmi, staff club secretary M Srinivas Reddy, K Sudhakar, K Satyaprakash and others participated in the programme.

TGSWRDC Nagunuru

The Telangana Social Welfare Residential Degree College for women, Nagunuru on the outskirts of Karimnagar town celebrated Savithribhai Phule birth anniversary by playing floral tributes to her portrait and recalling her services for the society as social reformer and education of women as the first woman teacher in the country. Principal T Malathi, vice principal G Samatha, faculty members Padmaja, E Venkatshwarlu, NSS programme officer and others were also present.

GDC Gambhiraopet

The government degree and PG college in Gambhiraopet of Rajanna-Sircilla district paid tributes to Savithribhai Phule by observing her birth anniversary as Women’s Teachers Day. Principal V Vijayalakshmi, NSS programme officer Paka Dharmapuri, WEC coordinator V Vani and others participated in the celebrations.

The Mandal Parishad Upper Primary School in Gagireddypalli village celebrated the Women’s Teachers day by felicitating the women teachers of the school on Friday. Headmaster Kola Ramachandra Reddy recollected the services of Savithribhai Phule for the women’s education and opening schools and fighting against the social evil of untouchability. Amma Adarsha patachsla chairman Bathini Swapna, Kaluvala Rama, teachers Anitha Kumari, K Premalatha, V Ravinder, Anganwadi teacher G Padma were felicitated.
