RSSDI district chapters would be formed in the entire Telangana state
They would also urge Collectors and DEOs to ensure that there was enough playground in all schools and conduct daily physical activities for students
They also urged the authorities to remove all junk food-selling stalls and stores in and around the schools in the state
KARIMNAGAR, APRIL 15, 2026: Senior physician and leader of the Association of Physicians of India (API) Karimnagar chapter, Dr DC Tirupati Rao, has been elected as the Telangana state chairman of Research Society for the Study of Diabetes in India (RSSDI) for the year 2026-27.
Talking to newsmen here on Wednesday, RSSDI Telangana chapter president Dr Tirupati Rao said that the RSSDI is committed to strengthening diabetes prevention, early detection and patient support across the state. Stating that India has a high incidence of diabetes patients and has become the capital of diabetes in the world, he said that presently more than 10.1 crore people are suffering from diabetes, and another 13.6 crore people are pre-diabetic in the country.
To create awareness among the people about the silent killer disease diabetes, he said that they had decided to launch a campaign called ‘Test, Track and Treat’ in the entire Telangana state. The Test (screening for undiagnosed diabetes, Track (monitoring blood sugar levels for pre-diabetics and diabetics) and Treat (managing diabetes to prevent severe complications).
Expressing concern over growing diabetes cases in the rural areas due to a changed lifestyle, he said that the RSSDI has decided to launch rural outreach programmes for early detection of diabetes, increase awareness and ensure timely medical intervention among underserved populations.
Similarly, they would conduct a comprehensive school-based programme to create awareness about healthy lifestyles among the students, which includes metabolic assessments to identify early signs of obesity and related risk factors, helping in the prevention of future diabetes. Dr Tirupati Rao said that they would conduct such camps in over 200 government schools, including residential schools, in the entire Telangana state.
The RSSDI also decided to establish a dedicated support group for children living with Type 1 diabetes. The programme will focus on providing proper guidance, education and access to essential care, including the provision of free insulin to eligible children, ensuring better disease management and improved quality of life.
Stating that diabetes would be a major health issue among the people of the country due to their sedentary lifestyle, he said that RSSDI would be formed in all districts of Telangana to launch an awareness programme and launch a crusade against diabetes for its early detection and proper medication.
Dr Tirupati Rao also said that the RSSDI had decided to submit memorandums to all the Collectors and DEOs to take necessary action for the creation of playgrounds and conduct of daily physical activities in all the schools and colleges. He also said that they would urge the government to take necessary measures for the removal of junk food stores in and around the school premises to check the spread of diabetes.
API senior leaders Dr D Raghu Raman, Dr M Vijay Mohan Reddy, Dr Laxman Vaddaboina, Dr Sanjay K, Dr P Chaitanya Reddy and others were also present.
