

Since January 2024, the DCA has registered cases against 159 quacks for the illegal stocking and sale of drugs in various parts of Telangana state

HYDERABAD, APRIL 09, 2025: Officials of Drugs Control Administration, Telangana, raided a quack’s clinic in Medaram Village, Tadvai Mandal, Mulugu District and seized drugs stocked for sale. It may be mentioned here that since January 2024, the DCA has registered cases against 159 quacks for the illegal stocking and sale of drugs in various parts of Telangana state.
On credible information, the Drugs Control Administration officials on April 8, 2025, raided the premises of a quack/unqualified practitioner, Gadam Manoj, Near Haritha Kakatiya Hotel, Medaram Village, Tadvai Mandal, Mulugu District, who was conducting clinical practice without proper qualifications at his clinic. During the raid, DCA officials detected 35 varieties of medicines, including antibiotics, steroids, analgesics, etc. stocked at the premises without a drug licence. Physician’s Samples were also found. The medicines worth Rs 18,000 were seized.
DCA officials detected several ‘antibiotics’ viz. Cefixime, Cefpodoxime, Amoxicillin, etc, at the clinic during the raids. Indiscriminate sale of antibiotics by unqualified persons may have disastrous consequences on the health of public, including the emergence of ‘Antimicrobial Resistance’. Officials found ‘steroids’ viz. Dexamethasone at the clinic of the quack. Misusing steroids can have serious health consequences, including immune system suppression, hormonal imbalances, muscle and bone weakness, cardiovascular problems, and psychological effects. The indiscriminate use of steroids poses significant risks to public health. P Pavani, Drugs Inspector, Bhupalpally, carried out the raid under the supervision of Dr. G. Rajyalakshmi, Assistant Director, Warangal.
DCA Director General VB Kamalasan Reddy said that the public may report any suspected manufacturing activity related to drugs, including narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, in residential, commercial, or industrial areas, as well as any other complaints regarding illegal activities concerning medicines, through the Drugs Control Administration, Telangana Toll-Free Number 1800-599-6969, which is operational from 10:30 am to 5:00 pm on all working days.
