HYDERABAD, MARCH 16, 2024: Officials of Telangana Drugs Control Administration busted the unlicensed manufacturing of the cosmetic ‘Sunscreen Lotion’ at a manufacturing unit in Jeedimetla and seized stocks worth Rs. 2.5 lakhs during the raid.
In a separate event, the officials seized overpriced anti-fungal medicine ‘ITRA-100 Capsules’ (Itraconazole Capsules 100 mg) at Vikarabad – MRP indicated is very high compared to the Ceiling Price fixed for the product by the Central Government.
DCA Director-General VB Kamalasan Reddy said that acting on gathered intelligence, officials from the DCA conducted a raid on the cosmetic manufacturing facility named ‘Esthetic Insights Private Limited’, situated at Plot No. 5/A, Road No. 5, IDA Jeedimetla, Gajularamaram Village, Qutubulapur Mandal, Medchal-Malkajgiri District on Friday and Saturday. During the operation, they detected the unlicensed manufacturing and sale of the cosmetic ‘Sunscreen Lotion’. Cosmetics can only be manufactured under a ‘Cosmetics Licence’ issued by the Drugs Control Administration, Telangana, in compliance with the standards established by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS).
During the raid, DCA officials seized large quantities of cosmetic ‘Sunscreen Lotion’ under the brand name DERMASONIQUE DSN AQUASOLAR Sunscreen SPF 50 PA++ with Batch Number P72400237 and Manufacture Date 03/2024 from Shaik Saifulla, the Director of Esthetic Insights Private Limited. The total worth of the seized stocks was Rs. 2.5 lakhs. M. Vijay Gopal, Assistant Director, Quthbullapur, G. Prasad, Assistant Director, Khammam, A. Saritha, Drugs Inspector, Jeedimetla, G. Indira Priyadarshini, Drugs Inspector, Habsiguda, P. Santosh, Drugs Inspector, Mehdipatnam were among the officers who carried out the raid.
Overpriced medicines seized
In an another operation, the officials seized overpriced ‘ITRA-100 Capsules’ (Itraconazole Capsules 100 mg) from Vikarabad due to price violation. The product Itraconazole Capsules 100 mg sold under brand name ‘ITRA-100 Capsules’ is under price control as per Drugs (Prices Control) Order, 2013 and the price of product shall be in accordance with the ‘Ceiling Price’ fixed by National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA), Government of India.
The MRP on the label of the medicine states Rs 250 for 10 capsules (Rs 25 for one capsule which is a violation of Drugs (Prices Control) Order, 2013. The Ceiling price fixed by the Central Government including Wholesale Price Index (WPI) for the product “Itraconazole Capsules 100 mg” is Rs. 16.67 for one capsule (Ceiling Price). Hence Maximum Retail Price (MRP) i.e. including GST 12 % should not be more than Rs. 18.69 for one capsule (MRP=Ceiling Price+GST)
The firm overpriced the product and charged excess of Rs. 63.10 for 10 capsules which is a violation of Drugs (Prices Control) Order, 2013. K. Anil Kumar, Assistant Director, Serilingampally, A.N. Kranthi Kumar, Drugs Inspector, Vikarabad and K. Anvesh, Drugs Inspector, Shabad are among the officers who carried out the raid.
