Due to a lack of dedicated cycle tracks in Karimnagar town, a Smart City, the cyclists were forced to conduct a bicycle rally on the highway
KARIMNAGAR, JUNE 03, 2026: The Karimnagar district cycling association with AK Pedal organised a bicycle rally on the occasion of World Bicycle Day on Wednesday.
The ride was held under the theme of ‘Cycling for a Greener Future’, which emphasises the bicycle role in cutting carbon emissions, combating traffic congestion and building a sustainable, healthy urban environment.
Due to a lack of dedicated cycle tracks in Karimnagar town, albeit a Smart City, the organisers were forced to conduct the ride from Indira Chowk to Elgandal Fort on the outskirts of Karimnagar town.
The ride was flagged off by District Forest Officer S Satyanarayana along with Karimnagar Rural ACP Vijay Kumar, Karimnagar district cycling association chairman V Narender Reddy, president B Madhusudhan Reddy and others at Indira Chowk.
On this occasion, they said that cycling is not merely a form of exercise or a fleeting hobby; it is the hallmark of a healthy and empowered lifestyle. It keeps us fit, energises the body, and enhances our mental well-being. Cycling should become a daily habit for us, as it serves as the most affordable, delightful, and sustainable means of safeguarding both our health and the environment,” they said.

They also said that increased use of bicycles can help reduce pollution and conserve petrol and diesel, benefiting the nation. Reminding that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has encouraged citizens to reduce dependence on fossil fuel-powered vehicles, adding that cycling offers an effective and sustainable solution in this context, they said “The more we use bicycles, the lower the levels of pollution will be, and the nation will also benefit through the conservation of petrol and diesel”, they stated.
Cycling offers numerous health benefits, including improved cardiovascular fitness, stronger muscles, better mental well-being, and reduced risk of lifestyle diseases. It is also environmentally friendly, producing zero emissions and helping reduce traffic congestion and air pollution. Association leaders V Jagadeshwara Chary, M Aravind Babu, Madhu, Tirupati, M Mahender, Akhil and others were also present.
