KARIMNAGAR, AUGUST 07, 2026: The World Breastfeeding Week (August 1 to 7) was conducted under the theme: ‘Breastfeeding for a sustainable start in life- strengthen what works’ at Kattarampur Primary Health Centre under the ICDS Karimnagar Urban project (Kothirampur) on Friday.
Municipal Corporators S Komuraiah (10th division) and Akula Narmada (11th division) participated as chief guests at a meeting focused on promoting breastfeeding immediately after birth and highlighting its critical role in improving maternal and child health.
They said: “Breastfeeding is the first and most complete source of nutrition for every newborn. Initiating breastfeeding within the first hour of birth ensures that infants receive colostrum, the thick yellowish first milk often referred to as the baby’s first vaccine. Rich in antibodies and essential nutrients, colostrum protects newborns from infections and strengthens their immunity.”
They highlighted the importance of exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months of life and added that breast milk is “liquid gold” for infants and called for collective support from healthcare institutions, families, workplaces and communities to create a breastfeeding-friendly environment, ensuring every child receives the best-possible start to life.
On this occasion, ‘Anna prasanam’ (first solid food eating ritual), Aksharabhyasam (initiation into letters or commencement of learning) and cradle ceremony were conducted for the infants of the Anganwadi centre. ICDS supervisor Aruna, Childline Sai Kiran, Anganwadi medical officer Sai Raju and mothers, pregnant women and others were also present.
