JAGTIAL, AUGUST 07, 2026: Breastfeeding Week was celebrated grandly at Government Degree College for Women (Autonomous), Jagtial, on Friday, under the auspices of the NSS and Health Club. Prominent gynaecologists Dr. Ellala Aruna, Dr. Padma Rathod, Dr. Jayanthi, Dr. Ankam Aruna, and Dr. G. Srilatha, along with paediatrician Dr. Ellala Srinivas Reddy, participated in the programme.
Speaking on the occasion, the doctors unanimously emphasised that there is no substitute for breast milk. They explained the nutritional value and health benefits of breastfeeding. They advised mothers to feed their babies the colostrum (the first milk) without fail, as it contains antibodies that help strengthen the baby’s immune system.
The doctors explained that breastfeeding helps establish a close emotional bond between the mother and child and also contributes to the mother’s health and well-being. They stated that breastfeeding can reduce the risk of ovarian and breast cancers in mothers.
The doctors also dispelled various misconceptions regarding dietary restrictions for breastfeeding mothers and explained the proper techniques of breastfeeding. They provided useful information for working women on how to express, store, and feed breast milk safely.
On the occasion of Abhaya Day, the doctors also appealed to the public to put an end to attacks and violence against doctors and to ensure a safe and respectful environment for medical professionals.
