Bonalu festival at Alphores: Poonakalu loaded with students celebrating with a gusto

KARIMNAGAR, JULY 15, 2024: It was all ‘poonakalu’ loading at Alphores e-techno school, Kothapalli, on the outskirts of Karimnagar town as the students celebrated the vibrant annual Bonalu festival with a gusto on Monday.

Girl students carried ‘Bonalu’ decorated with flowers and neem leaves and danced to the rhythmic beats of traditional percussion beats in gay abandon. The boys donned the role of potharaju created frenzied atmosphere with the dances and the girl students with their dance of possessing the goddess.

The teachers explained the importance of carrying bonam, the vessels filled with turmeric rice as an offering to the goddess and another vessel filled with water and turmeric as both act protective agents from the viral seasons.

Celebrations were launched by Alphores educational institutions chairman V Narender Reddy by lighting the lamp. He also carried the ‘bonam’ on his head and offered prayers to Goddess. He educated the importance of celebrating bonalu festival during the month of Ashadam when the fresh rains arrive and the people appeal to the goddess to protect them from seasonal diseases.
