KARIMNAGAR, AUGUST 21, 2024: Following a nationwide Bharath bandh call given by Reservation Bachao Sangharh Samithi on Wednesday (August 21, 2024), in response to a Supreme Court ruling that allows sub-categorisation with SC\ST reservations, the Karimnagar District Mala JAC leaders have observed a bandh call in Karimnagar town, which evoked mixed response.

Following the bandh call, all the educational institutions have voluntarily declared a holiday, and some of the hotels, business establishments and others remained closed in the town. Initially, the Mala association leaders staged a dharna obstructing the movement of the RTC buses, however, they were restored following the arrival of the police forces.

The protestors took out huge processions in various parts of the town opposing the categorization of the SC|STs. The Mala Advocates Welfare Assocation (MAWA) have staged dharna and submitted a petition to the statue of Dr BR Ambedkar in Karimnagar town and took out a procession.

The agitationists alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had decided on the categorization of SC\STs violating Article 341 of the Constitution. Demanding the government to rethink its decision on categorization of SC and STs, they threatened to further intensify agitations.

Mala JAC leaders Kada Shankar, Medi Mahesh, Medi Anjaiah, Boggula Mallesh, Bolumallu Sadanandam, Ganta Srinivas, Damera Satyam, Thalla Venkanna, Mandiga Manikya Rao, Gantala Renuka, Asha Vijaya, Dandi Ravinder, Banda Anitha Seelam Pushpalatha and others were also present.
