HYDERABAD, AUGUST 17, 2026: Avinash Mohanty, the 2005 batch IPS officer, has assumed charge as the Commissioner of the Telangana Standards Authority for Food and Essential Drugs (TG SAFE)
The TG SAFE has been established with the objective of strengthening the regulatory framework relating to food and drugs, ensuring quality, safety and compliance with the prescribed standards in the state of Telangana.
Mr Mohanty is known as a very strict and dedicated officer. The state has merged its Food Safety and Drug Control Administration departments into one power-packed authority called TG SAFE to clean up fake medicines and unsafe food. TG SAFE will use a unified team backed by dedicated police officers to launch surprise raids and tough enforcement. The action starts first in the high-density CURE region before rolling out across the entire state. Six specialised wings will cover everything from lab testing to legal action.
