KOLKATA, JANUARY 13, 2025: In West Bengal, all arrangements have been completed for Gangasagar Mela on the occasion of Makar Sankranti on Tuesday (January 14, 2025). Lakhs of pilgrims have already arrived at Sagar Island to offer puja at Kapil Muni Temple.
A few lakhs of devotees have already completed the rituals after a holy dip at the confluence of Bay of Bengal and Bhagirathi and started for their destinations.
The West Bengal Government has reiterated their demand to the Centre to declare Gangasagar Mela as a National Mela on the lines of the Kumbh Mela at Prayagraj. The State Government has also decided to construct a five-kilometre-long Gangasagar Setu across the Muriganga River to connect the main island with Sagar Island with an investment of 1500 crore rupees.
On the occasion of Gangasagar Mela, various cultural activities are being conducted. Sagar Arati is being held in the evening on the sea beach depicting the cultural ethos of the country. Kapil Muni Temple has been beautifully decorated with illuminations.
Various religious organisations took out rallies with bands, music and posters which added extra punch to the entire atmosphere. Monks from different parts of the country have gathered at Gangasagar.
