Demands centre to declare jatara as national festival

MEDARAM (MULUGU DT), FEBRUARY 23, 2024: With the blessings of Medaram Samakka – Sarakka, the people’s government is formed in the Telangana state, said Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy.

The Chief Minister along with Ministers Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy, Duddilla Sridhar Babu, Anasyua Seethakka, Konda Surekha and others visited the Medaram jatara on Friday and offered prayers to the tribal deities with vermillion, kumkum and placing the new clothes. He also offered ‘bangaram’ (jaggery) of his weight as an offering.

Talking to newsmen, the Chief Minister reiterated that the Congress government would fulfill the promise of six guarantees and strive for the upliftment of the poorer sections of society. They would be implementing two more guarantees of LPG cylinder for Rs 500 and free 200 units of power to BPL people from February 27 onwards.

Stating that the government would allocate huge funds for the continuous development of Medaram temple shrine as historic tourist spot in Telangana, he said that he would personally supervise the development of Medaram along with district ministers Seethakka and Sureka Konda. He said that they would constitute a special committee with ministers, experts from the devotees, tribal leaders and take up development of Medaram as per the traditions of the tribals of the region.

Flaying Union Minister G Kishan Reddy for stating that the Medaram tribal festival cannot be declared as national festival, the CM found fault with the Union government for allocating only Rs 3 crore for Medaram jatara. In contrary, the Union government allocates of crores of funds for khumbmela in north India, he stated and faulted the government for differentiating between north and south.

When the BJP leaders are appealing the people to visit Ayodhya and have darshan at Sri Ram temple, he said that the Telangana government is also appealing all the devotees to visit Medaram, the biggest tribal festival in the Asia, wherein crores of devotees participate and offer prayers to tribal deities. He informed Kishan Reddy to prevail upon Prime Minister Narendra Modi to declare Medaram jatara as national festival.

Government advisor Vem Narender Reddy, government whip Murali Naik, Palakurthi MLA Yashasvini Reddy, Endowments commissioner V Anil Kumar, Medaram jatara special officers Sharath and RV Karnan, Mulugu collector Ila Tripati, ITDA PO Ankith, SP Shabarish and others were also present.
