KARIMNAGAR, OCTOBER 03, 2024: The nine-day-long festival of Navaratri celebrations, which marks the worship of Goddess Durga, began on Thursday with religious fervour and gaiety at Sri Maha Shakthi temple in Karimnagar town. Devotees thronged the temple from early this morning to offer their prayers to the Goddesses Sri Durga, Sri Mahalakshmi and Sri Saraswati.

On the first day of Navaratri, Devi Durga is worshipped as Bala Tripura Sundari (Shailaputri). The devotees had been visiting the temple shrine since morning and offering prayers to the presiding deities at Maha Shakthi temple shrine.

The nine days of Navratri, which began today, are considered the most sacred and auspicious, and they remind the devotees of how Maa Durga defeated and killed the demon Mahishasura and established righteousness in the universe. Meanwhile, Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar greeted the people on the auspicious occasion of Sharad Navratri. He also wore the Bhavani Deeksha mala and participated in the rituals along with scores of devotees, who wore the Durga Deeksha mala. He is camping at the temple shrine and making all arrangements for the devotees by providing food and other prasadams.

Incidentally, the Maha Shakthi temple is the only one in the district without ‘hundi’ and the devotees would come and offer prayers to the deities without any donations to the temple shrine.

The temple shrine had been colourfully illuminated with special lighting and also all along the streets leading to the temple. The special attraction of the temple is the dandiya festivities daily from 9 pm onwards wherein women and children attend in large numbers.
