Bathukamma festivities begin on a grand note in Karimnagar

Stop DJ music during Bathukamma festivities

KARIMNAGAR, OCTOBER 02, 2024: Bathukamma, the festival of flowers, is the most important festival in Telangana. Every year this festival is celebrated for nine days starting from Pitru Amavasya with great devotion.

The nine-day festival begins on a grand note in various parts of Karimnagar district on Wednesday evening. All streets and localities reverberated with the songs of Bathukamma hailing Goddess Gauri.

Who is Bathukamma? What is special about this festival?

Bathukamma is the survivor for us because she survives. There is a hidden meaning in every Bathukamma’s form. The Bathukamma is in the shape of a Gopuram, as Srichakra Swaroopini. Worshipping Bathukamma means worshipping Shakthi.. The source of creation is “Adi Parashakthi”.  Adi means Beginning, it means the mother who pervades creation from the beginning. The Thrishakthi Swaroopa that emerged from Adiparashakthi are Matha Parvathi, Laxmi and Saraswathi  Devi.

The energy forms of Adhi Parashakthi are Para Shakthi, Adhi Shakthi, Jnana Shakthi, Icha Shakthi, Kriya Shakthi are spread throughout creation. This Pancha Shakthi’s are present in the Pancha Bhuthas also. Our Bathukamma festival is a festival in which the mother, who is the embodiment of Srichakra is worshipped with various kinds of flowers. Every flower decorated in Bathukamma represents a different form of deity.

Gouramma is in the upper part, is in the angle of Srichakram, Srichakra Raja nilaya Srimath Tripura Sundari Devi. In Telangana, people celebrate Bathukamma with uniqueness. On the first day, it is celebrated as Yengili poola Bathukamma, second day as Atukula Bathukamma, third day as Mudha pappu Bathukamma, fourth day as Nanabiyyam Bathukkamma, fifth day as Atla Bathukamma, sixth day as Aligina Bathukamma, seventh day as Vepa Kayala Bathukamma, eighth day as Venne Mudhala Bathukamma, ninth day as Sadhula Bathukamma.

During these nine days, all the women in the evening gather together, decorate Bathukamma with various flowers, clap, play swings, sing songs and treat and cares mother goddess like a baby. We offer Sathu Pindi which is made from various grains of nutritional value. “Sathuva” means Shakthi. Without energy or Shakthi our body cannot stand, that energy is Bathukamma. This is the blessing that only our Telangana people received from the mother goddess Adhiparashakthi.

People forgot the importance of this festival by playing DJ songs instead of traditional swing songs, and weird dances instead of claps. Mother Goddess, who smiles like a small child frightened by this activity. Let’s think, about whether to play weird Bathukamma or traditional Bathukamma followed for ages seeking blessings of Goddess.
