HANAMKONDA, JANUARY 05, 2025: While most people celebrate their birthdays surrounded by family and friends, Santhosh Manduva has spent the last 17 years making his special day meaningful in a unique way—by sharing it with the residents of an orphanage and an old age home.
Santhosh, the founder-president of Sulakshya Seva Samithi, began this heartfelt tradition in 2008 when he celebrated his birthday at Ekashila Old Age Home. “I gifted a water filter and arranged a special meal for the residents. The joy and affection I received that day were overwhelming,” he recalled. That experience became a turning point, inspiring him to dedicate his birthdays to spreading happiness among the underprivileged. This year was no different. At Oasis Orphanage, the celebrations began with a specially designed cake and a feast of biryani, the children’s favourite dish. Laughter and joy filled the air as the children danced freely on an open floor, cherishing every moment of the celebration.
At Ekashila Old Age Home, the focus was on simple yet thoughtful gestures. Fruits, biscuits, peanut jaggery bars, candies, badam milk, and masks were distributed, bringing smiles to the faces of the elderly residents. “A warm hug, a gentle touch, or just being there for them makes their lives brighter. It’s a satisfaction that no party can match,” said Santhosh. In 2013, Santhosh’s commitment to social service led him to establish Sulakshya Seva Samithi, through which he continues to work for the well-being of society. This year, he was joined by his friends—Shiva Sampath, Kathyayani Parcha, Kaushik Bhupathi, and Kodam Vinay—who added to the spirit of giving. For Santhosh, these celebrations are more than a tradition; they are a testament to the power of kindness and the joy of giving. “Being the reason behind someone’s smile is the greatest gift I could ever receive,” Santosh said with a smile.
