Tension escalated in Janwada village over attacks on Dalits by upper caste leaders

BSP chief RS Praveen Kumar visited the village and police have taken him into custody

Villagers staging dharna demanding action against the accused persons

CHEVELLA, FEBRUARY 14, 2024: Mild tension prevailed in Janwada village of Shankarpalli mandal in Chevella assembly segment on the outskirts of Hyderabad city on Wednesday when the police arrested BSP state president and former IPS officer Dr RS Praveen Kumar, who was staging dharna condemning the alleged attacks on Dalits by the upper caste people in the village.

Irked over the arrest, the villagers lodged their protest by climbing electric tower. The villagers and several BSP leaders arrived in large numbers condemning the attacks on Dalits and causing serious injuries to dalit and undergoing treatment in hospital.

The BSP party leaders said a Dalit person was abused and attacked by the upper caste community leaders belonging to the RSS and BJP in the village. They said that the upper caste leaders entered into the house of Dalit breaking the doors by hitting with boulders attacked him with iron rods.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Praveen Kumar strongly condemned the attack on Dalit villager and flayed the police for not arresting the accused person. He demanded the police to arrest the accused persons including political leaders and village elders. He found fault with the state government headed by Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy for attacks on Dalits.

Jakkani Sanjay Kumar condemns arrest

KARIMNAGAR: BSP state secretary Jakkani Sanjay Kumar has strongly condemned the illegal arrest of BSP state President RS Praveen Kumar.

In a statement here on Wednesday, he said that the BSP leaders had visited the Janwada village to protest against the alleged attack on Dalits by the upper caste leaders belonging to BJP and RSS. The police instead of taking action against the accused persons had arrested the BSP chief in an undemocratic manner, he said and demanded the release of Mr Praveen Kumar immediately and threatened to launch agitations in the state exposing the secret pact of Congress and BJP in the state.
