Ramagundam CP’s Task Force seize fake cotton seeds worth Rs 15 lakhs

RAMAGUNDAM, JUNE 01, 2024: In a continuous drive against fake seeds and fertilizers, the Ramagundam Commissionerate of Police have seized five quintals of fake and BT cotton seeds worth Rs 15 lakhs and arrested three persons on Saturday.

In order to check the circulation of fake seeds and fertilizers, Ramagundam Commissioner of Police M Srinivasulu constituted a special Task Force teams. Accordingly, the Task force personnel have raided a premises of Karnakonda Chandrashekhar in Boppapur village of Nennal mandal in Mancherial district and seized the banned BT cotton seeds weighing 5 quintals worth Rs 15 lakhs. Following his interrogation, he confessed that he had purchased the BT seeds from Razak from Bhainsa and Johnny from Mandamarri at cheaper rates and sell them to farmers at higher costs. He said that Sollu Peddaiah alias Suresh had illegally transported the fake seeds and handed over it to him.

The police arrested Karnakonda Chandrashekhar (32), Suram Dileep (35) and Kalluri Venkatesham (61) and registered cases under IPC sections 420, r/w 34, section 19 of Seeds Act, section 15 (1) of Environment Protection Act. They were handed over to the Nennal police station.

Commissioner of Police M Srinivasulu congratulated the Task force personnel for taking all measures for the protection of farmers from fake seeds. Task Force Inspector Sanjay, SI Latchanna and others were also present.
