Ramagundam Commissionerate of police seize fake cotton seeds worth Rs 16.50 lakhs

Police seize 5.5 quintals of fake seeds; seize Rs 1.8 lakh cash, Eicher vehicle, three mobile phones

RAMAGUNDAM, MAY 28, 2024: In a major seizure, the Ramagundam Commissionerate of Police have seized banned and fake BT cotton seeds weighing 5.5 quintals and worth Rs 16.50 lakhs and arrested two persons.

Following the directions of Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy to check the fake seeds and fertilizers and protect the farmers, Ramagundam CP M Srinivas constituted a special team with Task force and local police. On credible information about fake seeds being smuggled from Karnataka state to Telangana state via Maharashtra, the CP Task Force inspector Sanjay, SI Lathanna and others conducted vehicle checking at Bathukamma vagu under Chennur police station limits on Tuesday.

During the checking of the vehicle, the accused persons had concealed the fake seeds under the bags of onions. They arrested Sollu Peddaiah and Sollu Harikumar. The accused persons said that they had purchased fake seeds at a cheaper and decided to sell them to farmers at higher prices. The police seized the fake seeds worth Rs 16.50 lakhs, Rs 1.8 lakh cash, three mobile phones and Eicher vehicle. The police have registered case under IPC 420 r/w 34, section 19 of Seeds Act, Section 15(1) Environment protection act.

On this occasion, the Ramagundam CP Srinivas handed over cash rewards to the Task force and other police personnel. Mancherial DCP Ashok Kumar, Additional DCP (admn) C Raju, Jaipur ACP Venkateshwarlu, Chennur town inspector Ravinder, Task force inspector Sanjay, Chennur Agriculture AO Gladson and others were present.
