KARIMNAGAR, JUNE 27, 2025: In a crackdown on noise pollution, the Karimnagar Commissionerate of Police in Karimnagar destroyed 243 illegal modified silencers confiscated from vehicles on Friday.
The silencers were crushed under a road roller at the police headquarters in Karimnagar town as part of a special drive to curb the use of modified silencers, which are known to cause noise pollution and endanger other road users.
The move is in line with the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP) and the Mission LiFE Campaign, both aiming to counter the growing menace of urban pollution and promote sustainable practices. Commissioner of Police Gaush Alam said that the racket around modified silencers not only breaches traffic norms but also aggravates noise and air pollution, posing a serious risk to public health.
Later, the CP conducted a review meeting with the Traffic police on drunken driving, violation of traffic rules, implementation of e-challans, etc. On this occasion, he said that there was a problem with regard to the parking of vehicles in Karimnagar town and promised to take measures to ensure that there was adequate parking space in coordination with MCK officials.
The CP also reminded that the traffic violations namely signal jumping, driving without helmet, over-speeding, triple riding, driving without wearing seatbelt on all roads in a small city like Karimnagar henceforth will not go unnoticed as the Karimnagar Commissionerate of Police launched the commission several hundreds of high-tech traffic surveillance cameras newly installed in various parts of Karimnagar from June 27 onwards.
The CP warned that the traffic violations are closely monitored through CCTV cameras in various parts of Karimnagar town and informed the people to follow the rules in accordance. He said that the new cameras will capture photographs and take video of each violation and send the same to the Integrated Command Control Centre at MCK in Karimnagar. The police officer sitting at the Centre will authenticate the visuals, which will lead to issuing an e-challan to the owner of the vehicle registered in the country.
