
KARIMNAGAR, JUNE 11, 2026: Officials of the Drugs Control Administration, Telangana, raided a medical shop at Choppadandi Village, Choppadandi Mandal, Karimnagar District, which was operating illegally without a drug licence and seized drugs worth Rs 5.51 lakhs.
Acting on credible information, the DCA officials raided a medical shop located at Choppadandi Village, Choppadandi Mandal, Karimnagar District, on Wednesday night. Mallarapu Akhil was running a medical shop at the said premises illegally, without a drug licence.
During the raid, DCA officers detected the unauthorised stocking of a large quantity of medicines for sale. A total of 28 varieties of medicines, including in vitro diagnostic test kits, antibiotics, IV fluids, analgesics, and other drugs, were found stocked for sale at the premises. The stock, worth Rs. 5.51 lakhs, was seized by the officers during the raid.
Umarani, Drugs Inspector, Karimnagar, conducted the raid under the supervision of Sri K. Dass, Deputy Director, Nizamabad, and Dr. N. Narsaiah, Assistant Director, Karimnagar. DCA officers lifted the samples for analysis. Further investigation shall be carried out, and action shall be taken as per the law against all the offenders.
Drugs Control Administration, Telangana, issues drug licences for the stocking and selling of medicines in accordance with the provisions of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act. Stocking drugs for sale without a drug licence is punishable under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, with imprisonment for up to five years.

The public should avoid purchasing medicines from unlicensed sources and never buy medicines from unregulated websites or other online platforms. Purchasing medicines from such sources significantly increases the risk to public health, as they are unregulated. It is advisable to purchase medicines only from licensed medical shops, which typically display their drug licences, issued by the Drugs Control Administration, Telangana, conspicuously in a prominent place that is easily visible to the public.
Selling medicines without a licence is an offence, and medicines purchased from unlicensed premises are likely to be counterfeit products.
The public can verify whether a medical shop or pharmacy holds a licence issued by the Drugs Control Administration, Telangana, through the “Third-Party Verification” feature.
The public can enter the name of the pharmacy or medical shop in the search box provided under the “Third-Party Verification” section of the ODLS website at https://odls.telangana.gov.in/ThirdPartypublicview.aspx to verify the details of drug licences issued by the Drugs Control Administration, Telangana. This enables the public to check whether the medical shop or pharmacy is authorized to sell medicines or not.

DCA Director General said that the public may report any complaints regarding illegal activities related to medicines, as well as any other suspected manufacturing activities concerning drugs, including narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, in residential, commercial, or industrial areas through the Drugs Control Administration, Telangana Toll-Free Number 1800-599-6969, operational from 10:30 AM to 5:00 PM on all working days.
