DCA continue drive against quacks, raids seven clinics in Telangana

HYDERABAD, SEPTEMBER 27, 2024: Officials of Drugs Control Administration of Telangana conducted raids on clinics operated by quacks and unauthorized practitioners and seized illegally stocked drugs worth Rs. 3.45 lakhs intended for sale at various locations across the State, including Mahabubnagar Town, Mahabubnagar District, Banjara Hills, Hyderabad, Gungal Village, Yacharam Mandal, Ranga Reddy District, Korutla Town, Jagtial District, Jewla (b) Village, Tanoor Mandal, Nirmal District and Sathyanarayanapuram Village,  Cherla Mandal, Bhadradri-Kothagudem District.

According to DCA Director-General VB Kamalasan Reddy, based on credible information, officials raided the premises of quacks/unauthorized practitioners who were practicing medicine without proper qualifications at their clinics in various parts of the state simultaneously on Thursday and Friday. DCA officials detected several ‘antibiotics’ viz. Cefadroxil, Cefixime, Cefpodoxime, Amoxycillin, Ampicillin, Cloxacillin, Ofloxacin etc. at the clinics during the raids. Indiscriminate sale of antibiotics, by unqualified persons may have disastrous consequences on the health of rural public, including emergence of ‘Antimicrobial Resistance’.

Officials found ‘steroids’ viz. Hydrocortisone Injections, Dexamethasone Injections etc. at clinics of a quack. Misusing steroids can have serious health consequences, including immune system suppression, hormonal imbalances, muscle and bone weakness, cardiovascular problems, and psychological effects. The indiscriminate use of steroids poses significant risks to public health. Officials seized the stocks, worth a total of Rs. 3.45 lakhs, during the raids.

Ravikumar, Drugs Inspector, Balapur, R. Srilatha, Drugs Inspector, Nizamabad Rural are among the officers who carried out the raids.

Raids unlicenced medical ship in Kapra

In another raid, the officials, acting on credible information regarding the illegal sale of medicines, raided a Sri Vigeneshwara medical shop run by Danthuri Shiva Kumar located at Malkaram, Church Colony, Jawahar Nagar Village, Kapra Mandal, Medchal-Malkajgiri District on 26th September, 2024. During the raid,

DCA officers detected unauthorized stocking of huge quantity of medicines for sale. 36 varieties of medicines including antibiotics, steroids, anti-ulcer drugs, analgesics, etc. are found stocked for sale at the premises.  DCA officials seized the stock of total worth Rs. 30,000 during the raid. Seizure of drugs falsely manufactured and sold under the guise of ‘food products/nutraceuticals’

Similarly, the DCA officials detected drugs falsely manufactured and sold under the guise of ‘food products/nutraceuticals’  Ferisyn-XT Tablets (Ferrous Ascorbate & Folic Acid Tablets) circulating in the Peddapalli market. The product was found to be manufactured by Stallion Enterprises, 209-L, Sector-3, HSIIDC, Karnal-132001, Haryana and marketed by Syndicate Medicare Pvt. Ltd. as a food product/nutraceutical.

Drugs Control Administration officials in Bhupalpally have detected the product Fesozinc Tablets (Haematinic with Zinc and Vitamins Tablets) circulating in the market. The product was found to be manufactured by Pregio Pharma Pvt. Ltd., Puducherry and marketed by Rapid Solutions Pvt. Ltd., Chennai as a food product/nutraceutical.   M. Srinivasulu, Assistant Director, Karimnagar,  P. Shravan Kumar, Drugs Inspector, Peddapalli, and T. Chandana, Drugs Inspector, Mancherial are among the officers who carried out the raids.
