MCK corporator’s ‘proxy’ arrested and remanded to 14 days judicial custody

‘Proxy’ Mendi Chandrashekhar was arrested on the charges obstructing the duties of TPO and abusing her with filthy language

KARIMNAGAR, SEPTEMBER 06, 2024: The Karimnagar One Town police have arrested a ‘proxy’ Mendi Chandrashekhar alias Marshal, the husband of 44th division Municipal Corporator Mendi Srilatha on the charges of obstructing the municipal employees from discharging their legitimate duties and using abusive language against the employees.

Following a complaint lodged by Municipal Town planning officer Tejaswini, the One Town police arrested Chandrashekhar on Friday morning and registered a case under Bharath Nyay Sanhita (BNS) sections 307, 333, 292, 74, 132, 352 and 351 (2) and produced before the court. The judge remanded him to 14 days judicial custody.

Sources said that Mendi Chandrashekhar, the husband of municipal corporator, visited the MCK office on Thursday and argued with TPO over serving of notice of removal of an encroachment. When she reluctant to listen to his plea, his lost his cool and used abusive language.

Immediately, the TPO approached Municipal Commissioner Chahat Bajpai and narrated the incident. Later, Chandrashekhar entered the chambers of Municipal Commissioner and was explaining the issue. However, the Municipal Commissioner informed him to ‘get out’ of the chambers as he is not a municipal councilor. Later, Commissioner met Collector Pamela Satpathy and informed the same about the developments. The Collector informed the issue to Commissioner of Police Abhishek Mohanty to lodge a complaint. Accordingly, the TPO lodged a complaint and the corporator’s husband was arrested on Friday morning.

On the other hand, the employees with TNGOs and the Municipal employees staged a dharna in front of the MCK office in Karimnagar town denouncing the alleged adamant attitude of the Municipal corporator’s husband with the TPO of the municipality. They demanded stern action against the accused for insulting and obstructing the duties of municipal officials.

TNGO district president Daram Srinivas condemned the adamant attitude of ‘proxies’ of municipal corporations and threatened to intensify their agitations for their unnecessary interference in their official duties. Additional Commissioner Suvartha, Deputy Commissioner Swaroopa Rani, Assistant Commissioner Venu Madhav, EE Yadagiri, TNGOs town president Harminder Singh, state leaders Guda Prabhakar, R Srinivas, A Sharada, T Ramaswamy, Shankaraiah, Sumanth Rao, and others were also present.
