
NIZAMABAD, MARCH 12, 2025: Telangana University, in collaboration with the CSIR’s Central Institute of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants (CIMAP) has organized a mega awareness camp for farmers on its campus on Wednesday.

The experts from the CIMAP made a detailed presentation on the advantages of growing medicinal and aromatic plants.
CMAP scientist Dr. Gnanesha Gowda explained the farming techniques and the existing marketing facilities for medicinal and aromatic plants at the national and international levels. He said that the farmers can easily double their income by switching to the commercial plantations like medicinal and aromatic plants for which the international market is growing massively.
Telangana University Vice-Chancellor Prof. T. Yadagiri Rao exhorted the farmers to adopt new technologies and go for the cultivation of medicinal and aromatic plants on a commercial basis. “It is time that we reduce the cultivation of traditional crops and promote commercially important plantations like medicinal and aromatic plants for the economic empowerment of farmers,” the VC said.
He remembered his childhood days in farming and urged the farmers to keep on adapting to the changing cultivation tools and techniques and promote modern farming to reduce the losses. Prof. Yadagiri, Registrar, TU, said that this was the first ever meeting of the farmers on a mega scale in the University.
More than 100 farmers from across the Nizamabad district took part in the awareness camp and interacted with the scientists from the CIMAP on the pros and cons of the cultivation of medicinal and aromatic plants.
The event was taken up jointly by the Unnat Bharat Abhiyan, Research and Development Cell, and the IPR Cell of the Telangana University.
The CIMAP scientists distributed Lemongrass, Ashwagandha and other medicinal and aromatic plant samples to the farmers. Senior faculty members Vasam Chandrashekar, Shirisha Boyapati, M. Satyanarayana, and Punnaiah Akkinepally were among others who coordinated the farmers’ awareness meet.
