NIZAMABAD, SEPTEMBER 02, 2024: Following copious inflows into the Sriram Sagar Project (SRSP) due to incessant rains in its catchment areas, the irrigation authorities have lifted the 33 floodgates to release 1.5 lakh cusecs of water downstream into the river Godavari on Monday.
Against the full capacity of 90 tmcs, the SRSP received 88 tmcs of water on Monday and still inflows were gushing into the project forcing the irrigation authorities to lift the floodgates to discharge the surplus waters. The inflows have been on the rise in the last few days due to continuous rains in the upstream areas and also the release of water from the Vishnupuri project in Maharashtra state.
