WARANGAL, OCTOBER 23, 2026: Kakatiya University is promoting sericulture education to equip students with specialised skills and prepare them for diverse career and self-employment opportunities, according to K. Sujatha and Kaneez Fatima, faculty members of the Department of Sericulture.
The university has been offering a Postgraduate Diploma in Sericulture since the 1990–91 academic year and introduced the M.Sc. Sericulture programme in 2022–23. These programmes aim to provide students with comprehensive knowledge of the silk industry and develop skilled human resources to meet the sector’s growing needs.
Growing Career Opportunities
Sericulture graduates can explore employment opportunities in both government and private sectors, including research, technology, silk production, and industry development. Opportunities in organisations such as the Central Silk Board, including positions like Scientist-B in the pre-cocoon sector, highlight the professional scope of this field.
The faculty members emphasised that sericulture is more than an academic qualification; it offers a pathway to specialised expertise, professional growth, entrepreneurship, and self-employment.
Contributing to Viksit Bharat 2047
Sericulture education can contribute to India’s silk industry growth, strengthen rural livelihoods, expand employment opportunities, and promote entrepreneurship. Developing skilled professionals in this sector can also support the national vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.
K. Sujatha and Kaneez Fatima encouraged students to explore the sericulture programmes offered by Kakatiya University and make the most of the opportunities available through higher education, research, skill development, and career advancement in this promising sector.
