Students design an AI-powered solution to detect crop diseases and promote sustainable farming practices

The app had won first prize at the national-level hackathon recently
KARIMNAGAR, APRIL 09, 2025: AI Crop Care, an artificial intelligence-powered solution to detect crop diseases and promote sustainable farming practices, by the students of Jyothishmathi Institute of Technology and Sciences (JITS), Karimnagar town, has selected to participate in the International Startup Foundation (ISF) in United States of America (USA).
The students of JITS viz Ajith – IV Year, CSE A, Akshith – IV Year, CSM A and Ramesh – IV Year, CSE C, under the guidance of CSE HoD R Jegadesan presented a project AI Crop Care at the National Level Hackathon conducted at COHORT, Hyderabad, recently and won the first prize among the 92 competing teams and were awarded a cash prize of ₹10,000, certificates, and event T-shirts for their outstanding performance.
These students have utilised the services provided at the Centre of Excellence in Emerging Technology at JITS set up SAP Labs of India under Code Unnati programme and Edunet foundation under the guidance of TASK and excelled in their chosen career of designing a startup app for the benefit farming community and won accolades.
They developed an advanced agricultural solution integrating IoT and deep learning to empower farmers with real-time insights and smart decision-making. Utilizing Raspberry Pi sensors, the system continuously monitors temperature, soil moisture, and environmental conditions, ensuring optimal crop health. The deep learning-based disease detection feature enables early identification of plant diseases through image analysis. Additionally, our system offers AI-driven irrigation recommendations, optimizing water usage and improving yield efficiency. With agriculture news updates and market insights, farmers stay informed about the latest trends and government policies, fostering sustainable and technology-driven farming practices.
JITS chairman Juvvadi Sagar Rao, Secretary J Sumith Sai, principal Anil Kumar, Dean PK Vaishali and other faculty members congratulated the students and guide teacher Jegadesan for their model being selected for presentation in USA.
