
RAJANNA-SIRCILLA, SEPTEMBER 16, 2026: The International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer was celebrated grandly at Government Degree College, Gambhiraopet, under the chairpersonship of the Principal, V. Vijayalakshmi, and under the guidance of V. Vani, Lecturer in Chemistry.
Addressing the gathering, the Principal stated that protecting the ozone layer is the responsibility of every individual. She emphasised that the ozone layer plays a vital role in safeguarding life on Earth by protecting living organisms from harmful ultraviolet radiation. Without the ozone layer, life on Earth would face severe threats, and the planet would be exposed to extremely harsh conditions.
Speaking on the occasion, V. Vani, Lecturer in Chemistry, explained that the theme of the programme was “Global Action for a Cool Planet.” She elaborated on ozone layer depletion, its causes, and the scientific and technological measures required for its protection. She also highlighted the importance of adopting environmentally responsible lifestyles, introducing innovative government policies, and promoting revolutionary changes in scientific research to address ozone-related challenges.
As part of the programme, the students presented posters and models illustrating the causes of ozone layer depletion and the measures that can be adopted to protect it. Their presentations attracted the attention of the gathering and effectively conveyed the importance of ozone layer conservation.
