
HANAMKONDA, JULY 18, 2026: The Department of Commerce and Business Management, Vaagdevi Degree & P.G. College (Autonomous), Hanamkonda, organised an Industrial Interaction Programme on “Leadership and Decision-Making in Public Administration” for the final-year B.Com and BBA students, on Saturday.
The keynote address was delivered by Sri Ajay Mishra, Retired IAS Officer, who shared his extensive administrative experience and valuable insights into leadership and governance in public administration. Drawing upon real-life situations from his distinguished career, he explained the qualities of an effective leader and the importance of sound decision-making in public service.
Sri Mishra highlighted the close relationship between leadership and management, referring to the views of renowned management thinker Peter Drucker and other scholars. He emphasised that effective leadership is inseparable from efficient management, particularly when serving society and interacting with the public.
He also spoke about understanding public perceptions, handling sensitive issues with empathy, managing political dynamics, exercising patience during challenging situations, and adopting strategic decision-making whenever circumstances demand. Through numerous examples from his own administrative career, he illustrated how integrity, foresight and perseverance enable public administrators to address complex issues while serving society effectively.

The lecture provided students with a deeper understanding of the challenges and responsibilities associated with public administration. His practical experiences, thoughtful observations and inspiring words will continue to guide the students as they prepare for their academic pursuits and future professional careers.
The programme concluded with a heartfelt expression of gratitude to Sri Ajay Mishra for his valuable time, wisdom and inspirational address, which made the interaction highly enriching and memorable.
