Government Sanctions Rs 7,345.12 crore for Musi Riverfront project
HYDERABAD, JULY 09, 2026: Telangana Chief Secretary Sanjay Kumar Jaju visited the Phase‑I stretch of the Musi Riverfront Development Corporation Project on Thursday and reviewed progress across key intervention locations. The visit covered Osmansagar, Narsingi STP site, and the Gandhi Sarovar project lands, forming critical components of the State’s integrated river rejuvenation and urban resilience programme.
During the field inspection, the Chief Secretary held detailed discussions with the Managing Director, MRDCL, Joint Managing Director, MRDCL, Managing Director, HMWSSB, and senior officials from line departments. The review focused on flood mitigation measures, sewage treatment integration, land development readiness, and corridor‑level infrastructure planning.
The Chief Secretary offered futuristic and strategic suggestions aimed at ensuring the long‑term sustainability, ecological balance, and transformative urban impact of the Musi Riverfront Development Project. He emphasised the need for coordinated execution, scientific planning, and adherence to environmental and technical standards to deliver enduring benefits for Hyderabad’s citizens.
The MRDCL and HMDA are suggested to make a separate masterplan for the area falling between Musa and Eesa rivers till the confluence at Gandhi Sarovar for better connectivity and sustainable urban growth with the riverfront.
The MRDCL will incorporate the guidance provided and continue to accelerate implementation across the Phase‑I stretch.

Government Sanctions Rs 7,345.12 crore for Musi Riverfront project
On the other hand, the government has accorded administrative sanction for ₹7,345.12 crore (excluding land acquisition cost) for the Musi Riverfront Development Project covering priority stretches under Zone-1A and Zone-1B in Hyderabad.
The project, aimed at rejuvenating the Musi River ecosystem through integrated riverfront development, urban infrastructure, and environmental improvement, will span about 21 km. The two stretches include Himayatsagar to Bapughat (9.2 km) and Osmansagar to Bapughat (11.8 km).
According to the government order, the project will be funded through a ₹4,500 crore loan from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and ₹2,845.12 crore from the state government. The initiative is part of a larger plan to transform nearly 200 sq km of urban landscape in Hyderabad through sustainable and resilient development. The works will be executed in Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) mode, with a Project Management Consultancy (PMC) engaged for implementation and monitoring as per ADB guidelines. The Musi Riverfront Development Corporation Limited (MRDCL) has been directed to take further necessary action for the execution of the project.
