
Drugs Control Administration, Telangana, seized stocks purported to be Oxytocin Injections intended for misuse in cattle during raids conducted at fodder shops in Patancheru.
HYDERABAB, MAY 08, 202: On credible information, officials of the Drugs Control Administration conducted raids on 7th May, 2026 at two fodder shops in Patancheru.
During the raid, DCA officials seized 40 unlabelled transparent bottles (200 ml), purported to be Oxytocin Injections, from Mr. R. Saikrishna Goud, Proprietor of Sri Renuka Cattle Feed, Patancheru, Sangareddy District.
In another raid, DCA officials seized 120 unlabelled transparent bottles (250 ml), purported to be Oxytocin Injections, from Mr. Mylaram Sai Ram, Proprietor of Laxmi Krishna Cattle Feed, located at Patancheru (Village & Mandal), Sangareddy District, Telangana.
The said fodder shops were found to have illegally stocked injections purported to contain Oxytocin for sale, intended for misuse in cattle. Such misuse involves the administration of Oxytocin to dairy animals to artificially increase milk production. However, the unauthorized use of Oxytocin may have adverse effects on animal health.
Sri M. Chandrasekhar, Drugs Inspector, Patancheru; Sri M. Vara Prasad, Drugs Inspector, Pashamylaram; Sri N. Ravikiran Reddy, Drugs Inspector, Sangareddy; and Sri T. Praveen Kumar, Drugs Inspector, Bollaram, carried out the raids under the supervision of Sri K. Dass, Deputy Director, Nizamabad, and Sri P. Ramu, Assistant Director, Patancheru. DCA officers lifted the samples for analysis. Further investigation will be carried out, and action will be taken as per the law against all the offenders.
The abuse of oxytocin in livestock, particularly its illegal administration to artificially induce milk let-down and increase milk production in dairy animals, constitutes an offence.
Unauthorized stocking and sale of ‘Oxytocin Injections’ is punishable under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, with imprisonment of up to five years.
