KARIMNAGAR, JANUARY 28, 2026: In the garb of making fast bucks, two private engineering colleges of the same name and housing on the same campus in Thimmapur on the outskirts of Karimnagar town are cheating gullible rural students and their parents by collecting fees more than what is prescribed by the state government.
The state government had fixed a fee of Rs 60,000 per annum for one college and Rs 63,000 per annum for another engineering college on the same campus. Contrary to the claims made by the college management that they would not collect any donations, the college is collecting a significantly higher amount than the prescribed fees by the government. Incidentally, these two junior colleges are running junior colleges as breeding places for admissions into their engineering colleges as business motives.

The college was collecting Rs one lakh as fee for the first B Tech courses in different periods and again Rs 70,000 for the second year course in different times during the last two academic years, said an aggrieved parent, who was cheated by the college management, promising several sops. He appealed to the government authorities, including JNTU, Telangana Admission and Fee Regulatory Committee (TAFRC) and the Vigilance authorities to conduct surprise inspections on the two colleges and expose the racket by checking the ledger and fee bill collection books.
Another parent said that the college management is playing with the precious career of the students by not providing quality education, as it is not providing salaries to the faculty members. The faculty members were simply coming colleges and not taking any classes as they were also suffering due to non-payment of salaries. Stating that the pass percentage of the students was very poor, he said that the students were having several backlogs and their career is at bleak in these colleges.
He charged that the college management was encouraging the SC\ST and Minorities to join their college and collecting their scholarships as a fee and doing business by spoiling the bright career of the student community. The colleges were meant to transform the future generation, but these two engineering colleges were destroying the careers of the students by not providing education and simply collecting huge fees by cheating them with false promises.
The parents have appealed to the authorities concerned to conduct surprise inspections of the colleges and check the collection of huge fees against the prescribed fee structure. If possible, the government should urge AICTE to cancel the permissions for such colleges and ensure that the students join the nearest colleges of their choice for their bright future, they stated.
