KARIMNAGAR, JANUARY 22, 2026: As part of the ongoing National Road Safety initiative, the ‘Arrive Alive-2026’ campaign targeting youth, students, and commuters to reduce accidents through education was taken up at Vivekananda Degree and PG College in Karimnagar town on Thursday.
The awareness programme was conducted by the Karimnagar Three Town police station. College principal Ch Srinivas, in-charge principal B Sampath Kumar, Karimnagar Three Town Inspector Tirumal and sub-inspector Srinivas Rao, NSS programme officer R Gopi Krishna, AOBs B Sravan Kumar and B Rameshwar Rao and others participated in the programme.

Speakers laid special emphasis on educating two-wheeler riders about responsible road behaviour. Participants were advised to exercise caution when entering main roads from link roads, ensuring they checked for oncoming traffic in both directions before proceeding slowly. The dangers of overspeeding were underlined, with officials stressing the importance of maintaining controllable speeds to prevent accidents and allowing for quick responses to unexpected situations.
The mandatory use of helmets emerged as a key discussion point. Attendees were informed that while broken bones can heal, head injuries can be life-altering. It was reiterated that passengers over the age of four must also wear helmets. Additionally, strict warnings were issued against underage driving, noting that under the amended Motor Vehicles Act, parents or vehicle owners could face one year in jail if a minor is found driving. The vehicle’s registration could be suspended for a year, and the minor may be barred from obtaining a driving licence until the age of 25.
Participants were briefed on recent amendments to the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, which now require pillion riders on motorcycles to wear helmets. They were introduced to the concept of the “Good Samaritan” law, which encourages individuals to assist accident victims without fear. It was explained the “Golden Hour” following an accident is critical for saving lives, and the government rewards those who help with Rs 5,000. Importantly, individuals are not required to disclose their identity or appear as witnesses unless they volunteer.
