
Later, a grand floral procession took place from the Tirumala Garden department to the Tirumala temple. The Garden staff and Srivari Sevaks carried the flower baskets, chanting Govinda Nama all the way.
Speaking on the occasion, TTD EO Anil Kumar Singhal told media persons that every year, after annual Brahmotsavams, in the auspicious month of Karthika on the asterism of Sravanam, the birth star of Sri Venkateswara, the Pushpayagam is observed to atone for any inadvertent lapses that might have occurred during the Srivari Brahmotsavams.
The EO also said the religious event was in vogue in the 15th century and was again revived by TTD in 1980 after a long gap.
Meanwhile, the floral bath was offered to the Utsava deities with 16 varieties of flowers and 6 varieties of leaves.

A total of 9 tonnes of flowers were donated by devotees, including 5 tonnes from Tamil Nadu, 2 tonnes each from Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.
Temple DyEO Lokanatham, Garden Deputy Director Srinivasulu and others were also present.
