KARIMNAGAR, OCTOBER 21, 2025: Every year on October 21, India observes Police Martyrs’ Commemoration Day — a solemn occasion to pay tribute to the brave police personnel who laid down their lives in the line of duty. The day marks not only remembrance but also deep gratitude toward those who stood fearless in the face of danger to protect citizens, uphold law and order, and safeguard national integrity.
The origins of this commemoration date back to 1959, when ten valiant Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawans made the supreme sacrifice while defending India’s borders in Ladakh against external aggression. Since then, the day has been observed nationwide to honor the memory of all police personnel who have fallen in the service of the nation.
The term “Amara Veerulu” — immortal heroes — aptly describes the spirit of these men and women in uniform. Their courage transcends mortality, becoming a living reminder of dedication, discipline, and duty. Whether combating terrorism, handling natural disasters, managing law and order, or maintaining peace during public unrest, the police force has remained the silent guardian of public safety, often at immense personal risk.
In the state of Telangana, the policing system has earned recognition for its people-friendly approach coupled with uncompromising professionalism. From advanced surveillance networks and cybercrime control systems to the community-oriented “Friendly Policing” initiative, Telangana Police continues to set benchmarks in citizen service and security. On this day, as we salute the martyrs, we also acknowledge the collective spirit of the force that draws strength from their sacrifice.
The observation of Police Martyrs’ Day should not remain a ceremonial event but serve as a moment of reflection and recommitment. It reminds every citizen of the value of peace and the price paid to preserve it. Strengthening community-police relations, extending moral and social support to the families of martyrs, and ensuring welfare mechanisms for serving personnel are vital ways to honor their memory meaningfully.
In this context, it becomes a moral responsibility of all sections of society — government institutions, educational establishments, civil society, and the general public — to express solidarity with the police fraternity. Organizing memorial lectures, youth interactions, and public awareness programs about the sacrifices of police personnel will inspire a culture of respect, duty, and service among the younger generation.
As we bow our heads in homage to the Amara Veerulu, we reaffirm our commitment to uphold the ideals they stood for — courage, integrity, and service to the nation. Their sacrifice will forever remain etched in the heart of our democracy as a symbol of selfless devotion to duty.
