WARANGAL, JUNE 13, 2025: The Urban development experts and retirees, including Prof Gaddam Bhaskar and Rajeshwara Rao, emphasised the comprehensive underground drainage (UGD) project’s significance in enhancing the quality of life for city dwellers.
The discussion revealed that the initial survey for drainage management in Warangal dates back to 1979. However, the rapid population growth has led to an increased demand for effective drainage systems. Addressing a meeting that discussed the Warangal Development Vision Document, Prof Bhaskar noted that the Telangana Government has allocated ₹417 crores for the project, which received official approval in principle on November 17, 2024.
“The project aims at improving public health and will be closely monitored by technical experts. Advanced technology, including Google mapping and real-time field surveys, will be utilised to maximise benefits and minimise public inconveniences during the project’s four-year execution,” he said, stressing the need for meticulous planning and monitoring to ensure the comprehensive UGD system meets the community’s needs effectively. He proposed forming charity organisations to facilitate educational meetings and conferences, informing the public about the project’s benefits.
The initiative is expected to enhance public health and overall living conditions, fostering a healthier and more sustainable environment for Warangal’s residents. Distinguished guests, including the Member of the Executive Council of Kakatiya University and President of the Forum for Better Warangal, Pulluri Sudhakar, former Vice-Chancellor of Satavahana University, Prof. Mohd Iqbal Ali, Prof. K. Vijay Babu, and Dr. Prolaram, participated in the discussion.
