HYDERABAD, DECEMBER 29, 2024: Officials of the Drugs Control Administration, Telangana raided a quack’s clinic and seized drugs stocked for sale at Jajapur Village, Narayanpet Mandal, Narayanpet District. This year, DCA registered cases against 137 quacks for the illegal stocking and sale of drugs.
In a separate event, DCA conducted a raid on Siddhartha Pharmacy, located in Reddy Bazar, Mahabubabad, and detected the sale of Thiohil Gel to a patient at a price exceeding the MRP indicated on the label. A case has been registered under the Essential Commodities Act, 1955, read with the Drugs (Prices Control) Order, 2013.
In another incident, the DCA officials seized certain medicines due to misleading advertisements such as Premol Oral Suspension, an Allopathic Medicine, that claimed to treat ‘Fevers’, Drishti Eye Drops, an Ayurvedic medicine, claimed to treat ‘Eye Disorders’, Eyecare Eye Ointment, an Ayurvedic medicine, claimed ‘For Prophylaxis and Treatment of Eye Infections’, Ovaryl Forte, an Ayurvedic Medicine, claimed to treat ‘Disorders of the Uterus’ and ‘Disorders of Menstrual Flow’, Levos-AM Cough Syrup, an Allopathic medicine, claimed to treat ‘Asthma’, Saubhagya Sunthi, an Ayurvedic Medicine, claimed to treat ‘Fevers’ and Maharasnadi Kwath with Guggulu, an Ayurvedic Medicine, claimed to treat ‘Rheumatism’.
In an official release here on Sunday, DCA Director-General VB Kamalasan Reddy said that on credible information, the Drugs Control Administration officials, on 28th December 2024 raided the premises of a quack/unqualified practitioner Majigi Manohar Lal, at Jajapur Village, Narayanpet Mandal, Narayanpet District, who was practising medicine without proper qualification at his clinic. During the raid, DCA officials detected 50 varieties of medicines, including antibiotics, steroids, analgesics, antiulcer drugs, etc. stocked at the premises without a drug licence. The worth of the stock seized is Rs. 47,000. During the raids, DCA officials detected several ‘antibiotics’ viz—cefixime and gentamycin at the clinic. Indiscriminate sale of antibiotics, by unqualified persons may have disastrous consequences on public health, including the emergence of ‘Antimicrobial Resistance’. S. Vinay, Drugs Inspector, Narayanpet and S. Viswanth Reddy, Drugs Inspector, Nagarkurnool carried out the raid.
Acting on credible information, officials of the DCA conducted a raid on Siddhartha Pharmacy, located at Reddy Bazar, Mahabubabad, and seized sales bills for the ‘Thiohil Gel’ drug at a price exceeding the Maximum Retail Price (MRP) printed on the label detected. S Umarani, Drugs Inspector, Mahabubabad carried out the raid.
The Drugs Control Administration, Telangana officials, detected certain medicines circulating in the market with misleading claims on their labels, stating that they treat ‘Fevers’, ‘Asthma’, ‘Diseases and disorders of the Optical System’, ‘Rheumatism’, ‘Disorders of the menstrual flow’ and ‘Disorders of Uterus’. Such claims are in contravention of the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954.
Advertising a medicine for the treatment of ‘Fevers’, ‘Asthma’, ‘Diseases and disorders of the Optical System’, ‘Rheumatism’, ‘Disorders of the menstrual flow’ and ‘Disorders of Uterus’ is prohibited under the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954. Rafhi Shaik, Drugs Inspector, Jadcherla, J. Nagaraju, Drugs Inspector, Saroornagar, and J Sowjanya, Drugs Inspector, Yousufguda are among the officers who carried out the raids.
