NALGONDA, DECEMBER 28, 2024: Sri Konda Lakshman Telangana Horticultural University and ICAR – Agriculture Technology Application Research Institute jointly organised “workshop on Promoting Soap nuts in Telangana at Polepalli village of Devarakonda, Nalgonda district on Saturday.

The workshop started with a visit to the orchards of Mr Lokasani Padma Reddy an award-winning progressive farmer who is cultivating soap nuts, citrus and many other horticulture crops through organic methods and gaining huge profits.
Dr Raji Reddy, Vice Chancellor, SKLTHU has spoken about the need for crop diversification by cultivating horticulture crops and said they are laying an action plan to spread soap nut to 10 thousand acres in coming years. He stressed researching to conclude the benefits of soap nuts in controlling pests and diseases and as a profitable crop.
Dr Shaik N Meera, director of, ATARI has appreciated Mr Lokasani Padma Reddy and spoken about the prominence of soap nut farming in India and how it is taking us towards an Atma Nirbhar Bharat and urged the KVK staff for seedling development as a part of plan towards increasing the soap acreage.
Mr Subba Reddy Vice President, Coromandel International Ltd has congratulated the farmer – Mr Lokasani Padma Reddy for winning the Millionaire Farmer award conferred by Govt of India and highlighted the role of a farmer in society, urged the farmers to apply organic fertilizers and conserve the soil. He also gave a few advice about the marketing of the value-added products of soap nuts and also mentioned the Soap nut as Hope nut for future farming
Later, at an interaction session with the heads of 16 KVKs and HRS took place by Dr. Kiran, and the head of HRS, Konda Malle Palli acted as moderator. The scientific staff have spoken about the benefits of the soap nut how soap nut can be a hope nut and the advantages of taking the crop at problematic lands.
The programme was attended by District Agriculture Officer Mr Shravan and District Horticulture Officer Mr Sai Babu and agriculture and horticulture officers in Nalgonda district, Dr A. Kiran Kumar, head and scientist and Dr J.V. Prasad, HRS Kondamallepalli, other scientists from all the KVKs of Telangana, Coromandel staff and Farmers.
