KARIMNAGAR, JULY 13, 2026: Lifeless, silent rocks explain the rich history of Mother Earth in detail, and the study of rocks reveals the journey of humanity from the Stone Age to today’s digital age, as well as the wealth of cultural heritage, said retired Government college Principal Lion Burra Madhusudhan Reddy.
Speaking as the chief guest at a special programme organised by the Satavahana Lions Club at the Archaeological Museum in the heart of Karimnagar on the occasion of International Rock Day on Monday, he said that in the Stone Age, man used rocks and stones as weapons and tools. He reminded that the Metal Age came after that. He said that evidence of past human history can be found through the scientific study of rocks, and that rock age can be determined by carbon dating. He expressed his concern that today, hills and mountains are melting due to the granite trade. He warned that granite industries are posing a threat to the environment and public health.
Karimnagar Archaeological Museum Assistant Director N. Sagar said that the Archaeological Museum has preserved rocks that are millions of years old, and it has priceless archaeological treasures like metal tools used by early humans, clay pots, and ceramic objects. On this occasion, Satavahana Lions Club President Lion Marripelli Mahender, Secretary Narla Venugapal, Treasurer Lion Mukuru Praveen Kumar, Senior Lion K Rajender Reddy, Lion Pachunuri Surender, and museum staff participated. AD N Sagar was felicitated by the club members in this programme.
