KARIMNAGAR, JUNE 29, 2026: The Department of Statistics, TGSWRDC for women, Nagunur, Karimnagar town, celebrated National Statistics Day on Monday to commemorate the birth anniversary of Prof. P. C. Mahalanobis, for his significant contribution to economic planning and statistical development in post-independence India.
Each year since its inception in 2007, Statistics Day has been celebrated with a theme of national relevance. The theme for 2026 is “Unlocking the Potential of Administrative Data”, which underscores the growing importance of leveraging administrative data for evidence-based policymaking and governance. The theme highlights the need for strengthening data quality, interoperability, integration, and governance frameworks to maximise the utility of such data for producing timely, reliable, and granular statistics.
On this occasion, the students highlighted the significant contributions of Professor Mahalanobis to Indian statistics, especially in sectors such as health, education, and infrastructure. They also emphasised that data plays a crucial role in monitoring progress, identifying trends and disparities, and developing models to forecast future requirements.
The programme was conducted under the guidance of Principal T. Malathi, Vice Principal S. Padmaja, Academic Coordinator G. Vasumathi, and Superintendent T.Suresh. They appreciated the students’ presentations and encouraged them to strengthen their analytical and research skills. Faculty members and students participated enthusiastically, making the event a grand success.
