

Grant of Special Casual Leave for electors of MLC elections

KARIMNAGAR, FEBRUARY 24, 2025: In order to ensure smooth and fair polling during the Medak-Nizamabad-Karimnagar-Adilabad Graduates and Teachers Constituencies for the Legislative Council elections scheduled to conducted on February 27, 2025, Karimnagar District Election Officer and Collector Pamela Satpathy has issued orders instructing liquor and toddy shops and bars to remain close from 4 pm onwards on February 25 to 4 pm on February 27, 2025 in all the four integrated districts of Karimnagar, Adilabad, Nizamabad and Medak.
In a statement here on Monday, the Collector said that this measure was aimed to maintain law and order during the election period. The non-proprietary clubs, star hotels, restaurants etc., and hotels run by anyone even if they were issued different categories of licenses for possession and supply of liquor was also not permitted to serve liquor these days. The counting of MLC elections will be held on March 3, 2025.
Special Casual leave for govt employees
The Election Commission has issued orders to grant special casual leave on the day of poll to the central and state government employees, who are bonafide voters in the elections to the Telangana state legislative council to enable them to exercise their franchise on February 27, 2025.
The Collector informed all the private managements, authorities of business, trade, industrial undertakings or other establishments which work on February 27 of the state to grant necessary facilities to their employees and workers, who are registered voters in Graduates and Teachers MLC constituencies such as permission to attend office\duty later, adjustments of shifts, short absence of duty hours or otherwise to enable them to exercise their right of franchise on the polling day on February 27 between 8 am to 4 pm.
The District Election Officer also announced the silence period, or the period of tranquillity before the polls, is a feature of elections that aims to preserve the space for reflection before polling day from 4 pm on February 25 to 4 pm on February 27, the polling day. According to Section 126 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951-reg, during these 48 hours, political parties are prohibited from conducting election campaign activities through public meetings, processions, and displaying election matters through television, social media, print media, or radio.
She said that during the silence period, the non-residents of the districts of the constituencies should leave the respective districts 48 hours before elections. She also alerted the Model Code of Conduct officials, Police and other officials to conduct inspections of function halls, hotels, lodges and other places. She also informed that the opinion polls and exit polls are also during this silence period.
The District Election Officer also said that section 144 would be forced till the completion of MLC elections in the constituencies.
