Narendra Modi holds separate meetings with world leaders in Italy

NEW DELHI, JUNE 14, 2024: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday held separately bilateral meetings world leaders on the sidelines of the G7 summit in Italy. Mr Modi met French President Emmanuel Macron, UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

While Macron and Modi discussed ways to further strengthen the strategic partnership, including in areas of defense, AI, nuclear, and space, Zelenskyy briefed Modi on various aspects of the Russia-Ukraine conflict. His brief meeting with Sunak was also focused on strengthening bilateral relations. Mr Modi offered his best wishes to President Macron for hosting the upcoming Paris Olympics 2024.

On his X (earlier twitter) post, Mr Modi said that “Had an excellent meeting with my friend President Emmanuel Macron. This is our fourth meeting in one year, indicating the priority we accord to strong India-French ties. Our talks covered numerous subjects such as defence, security, technology, AI, Blue economy and more. We also discussed how to encourage innovation and research among the youth. I conveyed my best wishes to him on hosting of the Paris Olympics which begins next month”.

After meeting UK prime Minister Rishi Sunak, Mr Modi stated “I reiterated my commitment to further strengthen the India-UK comprehensive strategic partnership in the third term of the NDA government. There is great scope to deepen ties in sectors like semiconductors, technology and trade. We also talked about further cementing ties in the defence sector”.
