Womenfolk took 6.35 crore free rides in RTC buses and saved Rs 230.72 crore in Karimnagar district

KARIMNAGAR, JULY 30, 2024: A record number of 6.35 crore womenfolk took free bus rides under the Mahalakshmi scheme in the integrated Karimnagar district and saved as much as Rs 230.72 crore since the implementation of the scheme from December 9, 2024 onwards.

In a statement here on Tuesday, TGSRTC Karimnagar regional manager N Sucharitha said that the occupancy ratio had increased considerably from 68.13 per cent before the implementation of the Mahalakshmi scheme to 85.33 OR after the introduction of free rides to the women in the district.

Earlier, a total of 2.21 lakh commuters travelled in RTC buses per day in the district. After the implementation of the Mahalakshmi scheme, the number of commuters travelling increased to 4.15 lakh passengers per day. She also said that they had increased the frequency of the buses depending upon the demand from the commuters.
