It is difficult for a fire-tender or an ambulance to move at Tower circle following the encroachment of roads and footpaths by traders
The wide roads were converted into narrow roads under Smart City programme
KARIMNAGAR, JUNE 11, 2024: All the unions and associations of BSNL Karimnagar district unit have urged Karimnagar Municipal Commissioner B Srinivas to take measures for the removal of encroachments and street vendors around the Telephone bhavan at the Tower circle area in Karimnagar town.
Accordingly, the Unions and Association leaders of BSNL led by Bandari Santhosh, Velthuru Swamy, Linga Chary, Sathaiah, Kishan and others submitted a memorandum in this regard to the Municipal Commissioner in his chambers on Tuesday. Stating that they were also paying property tax to the Municipal Corporation, they said that the encroachment of footpaths surrounding the Telelphone bhavan had become a cause of concern with traffic snarls and other illegal activities in front of the ‘high security zone’.
Reminding about the fire accident that place in the Telephone bhavan causing huge loss to the costly equipment and denial of phone services to the users in Karimnagar district, they said that the encroachment of roads by hawkers and illegal parking of vehicles mostly the autos had become very difficult for the fire tender to enter the premises to extinguish the fire.
Assuring all assistance to the MCK, the employees urged the Municipal Commissioner to take measures for the removal of encroachments by the street-vendors and illegal parking of autos from the vicinity of the Telephone bhavan and protect the properties of the government and also lives of the employees working on the premises.
It is irony that then BRS rulers had converted the wide roads into narrow roads at the Tower Circle area in the name of Smart City project. The construction of footpaths on the road had come as bless in disguise for the hawkers and others to encroach the roads and cause traffic snarls. The conversion of wide roads into narrow roads and illegal encroachments and parking of vehicles had become for the smooth passage of ambulances, fire tenders and other vehicles during emergencies.
