HPV vaccines can eliminate cervical cancer ‘in our lifetime’, says Dr Pratishtha Rao, Medicover hospital

KARIMNAGAR, MARCH 18, 2024: “India has a safe human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine. It is a powerful tool to prevent cervical cancer and save lives. India has a nationwide screening programme that can eliminate cervical cancer in “our lifetime,” said Dr Pratishtha Rao, Consultant Gynaecologist, Medicover Hospital, Karimnagar

She was speaking at a talk on HPV vaccination prevention of Cervical cancer organied by Women empower cell (WEC) of SRR government arts and science college in association with Medicover hospital on the college premises on Monday. Speaking on the occsin, Dr Prathishtha Rao stressed on the need for HPV vaccination for adolescent girls to prevent Cervical Cancer. She said that India had developed its first indigenous HPV vaccine that can prevent cervical cancer and other HPV-associated cancers.

She also clarified various doubts about the vaccination and side-effects of the girl students and women faculty members at an in-camera session. Principal K Ramakrishna, HoD of English WEC coordinator j Uma Maheswari, faculty members Shoba Rani, Sharada, Praveena, Pramila, Sonia Reddy, Jubilee Replica and others were also present.
