Officials raid a quack’s clinic and seize medicines

HYDERABAD, FEBRUARY 15, 2024: Officials of Telangana Drugs Control Administration cracked down on a godown and seized a huge quantity of ‘physician’s samples’ intended for sale at Dilsuknagar, Hyderabad. They also raided a quack’s clinic and seized drugs stocked for sale at Gollapally village in Kondapur mandal of Sangareddy district.
DCA Director General VB Kamalasan Reddy said that on credible information received through the ‘DCA Telangana Toll-Free Number 1800-599-6969’ the officials raided a godown at P&T Colony, Dilsukhnagar, and detected a huge stock of ‘Physician’s Samples’ intended for sale. They seized 52 varieties of “Physician’s Samples,” including antibiotics, anti-diabetic drugs, anti-ulcer drugs, antihypertensive drugs, antifungal drugs, etc., worth a total of Rs. 60,000 during the raid. The physician’s samples were illegally stocked by Kodakandla Srinivas in the godown.
.Physician’s Samples are manufactured by pharmaceutical companies for distribution to doctors for supply to their own patients as free samples and are not intended to be sold. Anjum Abida, Assistant Director, Rangareddy and J. Nagaraju, Drugs Inspector, Saroornagar, J V. Ravi Kumar, Drugs Inspector, Balapur, L. Raju, Drugs Inspector, Hayathnagar are among the officers who carried out the raid.
In another incident, the officials raided the premises of a quack Bablu Hariprasad Biswas, in Gollapally Village, Kondapur Mandal, Sangareddy District, who was claiming himself as a ‘Rural Medical Practitioner’ and practicing medicine without proper qualification at his clinic.
During the raid, DCA officials detected huge stocks of medicines found stocked at the premises without any drug license. 50 varieties of medicines, including antibiotics, steroids, analgesics, anti-ulcer drugs, antihypertensives, IV fluids, etc., were found stocked at the premises. DCA officials seized the stock, worth a total of Rs. 50,000 during the raid. N. Ravikiran Reddy, Drugs Inspector, Sangareddy, G. Srikanth, Drugs Inspector, Jinnaram, M. Varaprasad, Drugs Inspector, Pashamylaram are among the officers who carried out the raid.
The Drugs Control Administration, Telangana, issues drug licenses for the stocking and selling of medicines in accordance with the provisions of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act. Stocking drugs for sale without a drug license is punishable under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, with imprisonment for up to five years.
