HYDERABAD, NOVEMBER 29, 2024: Officials of Drugs Control Administration, Telangana, conducted raids on two clinics operated by quacks at Gopalpur Village, Elkathirthi Mandal, Hanamkonda District, and seized illegally stocked drugs.
In a separate event, the DCA officials seized Medford-XT Tablets (Ferrous Ascorbate, Folic Acid & Zinc Sulphate Tablets) in Toopran Village, Medak District, which were falsely manufactured and sold under the guise of ‘food products/nutraceuticals’. Similarly, the officials also seized SOFTAMYCITIN CHLORAMPHENICOL EYE OINTMENT IP 1.0% w/w SOFT MEDICAPS, an allopathic medicine, in Jillelaguda Village, Balapur Mandal, Ranga Reddy District for making misleading advertisements claiming it is for the prophylaxis and treatment of eye infections on Thursday.
On credible information, the DCA officials raided the clinics of Chidurala Markandaya and Sripati Madhukar in Gopalpur village of Elkathurthi mandal and seized several ‘antibiotics’ and other medicines worth Rs 27,000. G. Rajyalakshmi, Assistant Director, Warangal, J. Kiran Kumar, Drugs Inspector, Hanumakonda and M. Aravind Kumar, Drugs Inspector, Warangal are among the officers who carried out the raids.
Seizure of drugs falsely manufactured and sold under the guise of ‘food products/nutraceuticals’
The officials detected drugs falsely manufactured and sold under the guise of ‘food products/nutraceuticals’ in Toopran Village, Medak District and seized Medford-XT Tablets (Ferrous Ascorbate, Folic Acid & Zinc Sulphate Tablets) circulating in the market. The product was found to be manufactured at Creative Nutritions, L.N.Colony, IDA Uppal, Medchal-Malkajgiri District, Telangana and Marketed by: Tesco Pharma, Salivary Salhapur, Roorkee, Uttarakhand.
The said product was falsely manufactured under a ‘food license (FSSAI license)’ and falsely claimed to be a food product/nutraceutical. According to the label composition of the product, it is classified as a drug under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940. P. Chandrakala, Drugs Inspector, Medak carried out the raid.
Seizure of drugs for misleading advertisements:
They also detected medicines moving in the market with misleading and objectionable advertisements. They found an allopathic medicine SOFTAMYCITIN CHLORAMPHENICOL EYE OINTMENT IP 1.0% w/w SOFT MEDICAPS moving in the market with misleading advertisement claiming it is for the prophylaxis and treatment of eye infections, which is a contravention of the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954.
The said allopathic medicine was detected by DCA officials at a medical store in Jillelaguda Village, Balapur Mandal, Ranga Reddy District. Stocks were seized during the raid. V. Ravikumar, Drugs Inspector, Balapur carried out the raid.
Further investigation shall be carried out and action shall be taken as per the law against all the offenders.
