Collector Pamela Satpathy releases Antimicrobial resistance posters prepared by IMA Karimnagar chapter

KARIMNAGAR, NOVEMBER 22, 2024: Collector Pamela Satpathy, along with DMHO Dr Venkataramana, released a poster on Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) prevention and control prepared by the Indian Medical Association (IMA) Karimnagar chapter in her chambers at the Collectorate in Karimnagar town on Friday.

As part of the ongoing World Antimicrobial Awareness Week which is being celebrated from November 18 to 24, IMA Karimnagar designed a poster educating the people about the importance of using antibiotics judiciously under a medical prescription by a qualified MBBS doctor.

On this occasion, IMA Karimnagar district president Dr Naresh Anamalla said that they would display posters in all hospitals and also prepare pamphlets and distribute them to create awareness among the people. Stating that more than 49 lakh people worldwide have died due to antimicrobial resistance in the country in the year 2019, he advised the public to avoid taking antibiotics when not required as it speeds up antibiotic resistance. He said antibiotic-resistant infections are more complex and harder to treat and as such, antibiotics must be taken only on a doctor’s advice.

“The issue of growing resistance towards antimicrobial needs urgent attention. The focus should be on raising awareness regarding the threat of antimicrobial resistance and what measures can be taken to prevent this resistance,” he stated. IMA Karimnagar secretary Dr S Naveen Kumar, IMA immediate past president Dr Ram Kiran, senior physician Dr Vijaymohan Reddy, Dr Venkateshwarlu and others were also present.
