Ponnam Prabhakar visits LMD reservoirs and exudes confidence over its filling up very soon due to incessant rains
RAJANNA-SIRCILLA, SEPTEMBER 01, 2024: Thanks to the incessant rains in its catchment areas, the Upper Manair Dam (UMD) in Narmal village of Gambhiraopet mandal is overflowing on Sunday.
The UMD with a storage capacity of 2.2 tmcs has received the water to its full capacity and the surplus water was overflowing from the project from Sunday evening onwards.
Nizams constructed the UMD in the 1940s to provide irrigation sources to more than 1.2 lakh acres in the region. With the overflowing floodwaters at UMD, the people have made a beeline to glimpse the beautiful treat to the eyes.
The surplus water from the project would be received by the Lower Manair Dam in Karimnagar, starved of water following poor inflows. Incidentally, Minister for Transport and BC Welfare Ponnam Prabhakar along with legislators Kavvampalli Satyanarayana and Medipalli Satyam had visited the LMD project site on Sunday and exuded confidence that the project would be filled to the brim following the incessant rains in its catchment areas.
